Ah Yip Herbal Soup Company History

"Ah Yip" grew up in a family that ran retails of Chinese medicine & liquor, consultations and prescribing traditional medication in Tanjung Tualang, Perak. With the knowledge and training passed on from his father who originated from Guangdong, China, "Ah Yip" started his practice as a Chinese Sinseh in his hometown at a very young age of 22.

After years of practice, "Ah Yip" intended to start his own business but he knew that opportunity is limited if he chose to stay in his hometown, as such he decided to venture to the city – Kuala Lumpur (KL).

When he first arrive in KL, he was surprise to see the city busy life style, and realized that traditional Chinese medication services is not practical in the city. However, he did see business opportunities especially the healthy and nourishing food.

Then he returned to his hometown and shared his idea with his wife and father in-law, who is a chef. They started to wonder how would they blend both Chinese herbs and cooking to derive a menu that suits especially the city people.

Soup is part of Cantonese dining culture, as both families are Cantonese, the idea of "Chinese Herbal Soup" emerged. The first ideal menu was made complete with the combination Ah Yip's Chinese medication knowledge and his father in-law's expertise in Cantonese cuisine.

In year 1993, the very first Ah Yip Herbal Soup was founded by "Ah Yip", Mr Cheng Keng Yip, in City Square Complex with only 15 seating capacity. With the overwhelming response, Ah Yip Herbal Soup has successfully expanded by opening outlets almost one each year, such as 1994 – Atria Shopping Mall, 1996 – The Mines Club House, 1997 – The Mines Shopping Fair, 1998 – The Summit USJ, 1999 – Low Yat Plaza and Ah Yip Herbal Soup is operating 11 outlets in Malaysia and 1 in Singapore currently.
